The one of the following is due every Wednesday.
Assignment #3 Visual or Abstract Portrait: (fine art)
Make one portrait by organizing the subject, garment, gesture, environment, edges of the frames, etc as an abstract expression. The principal objective is to organize the subject within all the shapes, lines and values in the image to provide a visual interest or delight.
Assignment #4 Intellectual Portraits or Portrait as a Document: (occupational)
Make one portrait containing, in addition to the subject, a maximum of information about his or her environment, work, etc. Obviously, such considerations as to how much information can be contained within the single image should be taken into account.
Assignment #5 Emotional Portrait or Portrait as an Equivalent: (editorial)
Make one portrait in which the subject and background elements interact with the viewer’s emotional response to the subject. Your approach should be a poetic one. It is acceptable to use the subject as symbolic or allegorical figure rather than as an individual. Background and other elements should be used not for what they are but for what else they can be.
Assignment #6 Portrait of the Physical Reality: (sports)
Make one portrait that represents the physiognomy of the subject in the most intensely tangible manner. Use your technical and creative powers to their fullest in order to produce a vivid sense of physical, three-dimensional presence. Do not confuse projection of the personality with projection of the physicality of the subject.
Assignment #7 Formal Portrait
Make one portrait of a person's face that clearly displays their likeness and displays some aspect of their personality. A formal portrait is not a snapshot but a carefully arranged pose under effective lighting conditions and environment. This type of portraiture can serve many purposes, ranging from usage on a personal web site (i.e., LinkedIn) to a display the lobby of a business.
